Recently I had the honor of being asked to speak at the National Conference on Public Employees Retirement Systems (NCPERS) Trustee Education Seminar. Now more than ever, dedicated workers are needed – especially in public service roles which impact us all.
The challenge for all of us, public or private, is making the best use of the resources we have. And on the public side those resources are services for our communities and citizens – mostly driven by personal interactions. So we must have good, dignified, dedicated public servants committed to service.
It’s a myth that retirement systems are about ‘benefits’. A well designed pension system is simply an effective tool for an employer to use to attract quality workers and retain them thru their most productive working years – thereby providing the best services possible.
